Phuket International  Blues Rock Festival

The Phuket International Blues Rock Festival, is the most exciting music festival in the Phuket events calendar. The festival attracts top calibre blues bands from around Thailand, America, Australia and Europe.

Not only does the festival provide first class entertainment, it also donates funds to local Phuket charities and foundations.

The Phuket International Blues Rock Festival takes place on 25 and 26 February 2011 at The Hilton Arcadia Resort, Karon Beach.



Who Will Be Performing at the Phuket International Blues Rock Festival 2011?

1. Curtis Salgado (USA)
   Curtis Salagado, inspired and mentored John Belushi, for his role in “The Blues Brothers” movie.  He is also the winner of the, “Male Artist of the Year 2010” at the Blues Foundation Awards in Memphis.

2. Mason Ruffner (USA)
   Rock legend, Mason Ruffner, has performed and recorded with Bob Dylan and Santana. He has also toured with U2, Jimmy Page, Ringo Starr, Crosby, Stills & Nash amongst many more rock icons. Mason Ruffner has released 6 albums. The title song from his CD, “Gypsy Blood” was featured in the movie “Steel Magnolias” starring Shirley Mclaine and Julia Roberts.

3. AkashA (Malaysia)
   AkashA (meaning – ethereal space, bountiful space) is a vibrant Malaysian 7-piece band. AkashA is a fusion of 4 cultures – Malay, Indian, Chinese and Western. AkashA draw inspiration from across the globe to experiment in Blues, Jazz, Cuban, Latin, Asian, African, Celtic – amongst many music genres. AkashA represent Malaysia at world music festivals around the world.

   Taking their name from the second album by the British Supergroup “Cream”. “Disraeli Gears” are much more than a tribute to “Cream”. Made up of 3 amazing musicians, all of whom have decades of experience playing across the world.

5. The New Machine Plays Pink Floyd (UK)
   Formed in 1999, The New Machine Plays Pink Floyd are not a tribute band they are a Pink Floyd experience. They are particularly noted for capturing that special Pink Floyd feel. The band have toured all over the UK, Europe and Asia. The New Machine Plays Pink Floyd, have played at many high profile charity events and helped to raise awareness of local and global issues such as Pattaya’s “The Love Ride for Peace Festival” raising money for children with HIV.

6. Phuket All-Star Blues Band With Andy Gonzales (USA)
   The Phuket All-Star Blues, are the premier Phuket blues/rock band. They will be enthusing the crowd with a cross section of blues from across the island. The band will also be featuring special guests including Andy Gonzales and locals Jammers Jimmy, Karen and many more.




7. Torgny Sandgren Blues Band (Sweden)
   Torgny Sandgren is a talented singer/songwriter and guitarist. Together with his band they deliver electric blues and sparkling rock and roll.  The band’s music is deeply rooted in Swedish tradition. Torgny Sandgren Blues Band, are influenced by legends such as, Cream, Bob Dylan, Allman Brothers and others. After playing many gigs across Sweden, the Phuket Blues Rock Festiva,l will be their first international show.

8. John Meyer’s Blues Express (Australia)
   Hailing from Western Australia, John Meyer has toured with the big names in the Australian music industry, including “Rose Tattoo and Chain”; Whom John recorded and co-produced with. John has won many accolades such as “Outstanding Album of the Year”, “Guitarist of the Year” and also “Outstanding Artistic Contribution”. In 2003, he was inducted into the Western Australia’s “Hall of Fame”. Together, with his band John Meyer is now working on a new album which will be finished in time for the International Phuket Blues Rock Festival.

9. Robert “One-Man” Johnson (USA)
   Robert “One-Man” Johnson, is a world traveller, educator and talented writer/musician. He has been performing his distinctive brand of folk and blues across the US, China, Turkey, Japan and Thailand for 40 years.  Playing original and classic blues music, while playing guitar, harmonica, high hat cymbal and a foot bass box. Robert “One-Man” Johnson has opened and shared shows for, Bonnie Raitt, Mose Allison and many more.
